As soon as I heard Isabella’s story I reached out to the mother to get more details.
Isabella’s mom said:
On November 25th, 2010 life as we knew it was forever changed. Isabella (who was 4.5 years old at the time) and I had spent the day celebrating Thanksgiving with family and friends. Isabella was fine all day. Suddenly she became very sick. Isabella quickly became dehydrated, confused and disoriented. I had no idea when I brought her to the hospital that our journey was just beginning. Within 24 hours of being admitted, Isabella was literally crashing and dying before my eyes. Isabella had been diagnosed with sudden acute encephalitis from an unknown virus.
I heard what no mother should ever hear- Isabella wasn’t expected to make it through the night. Isabella not only made it through the night but she continued to defy the odds and eventually woke up from her coma. The day that she came back was the happiest day of my life. However when Isabella woke up she was literally in the state of a newborn, except newborns can move their arms and legs. Isabella couldn’t. Isabella was left with an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI).
Isabella was receiving treatments of HyperBaric Oxygen Chamber which dramatically reduced her amount of seizures. Since April 30, 2014 the treatment is no longer covered and she has not been receiving them since then and has been having multiple seizures every month.
Isabella needs a HyperBaric Oxygen Chamber (HBOT) for home. The only way to ensure that Isabella is able to continue to receive this life altering treatment is to purchase a chamber.
