Another update from our friend, Andres:
About 8 hours in, and lots of heartbreak to go around. Bentley has thrown it all away, the Bimmers keep hanging tough though one Schubert Z4 had a heavy crash. At the end of 7 hours, The 30 Frikadelli P machine leads, last year’s winner the 1 Phoenix R8 is second and the 26 Marc VDS BMW Z4 is third. Those guys have been there or thereabouts from the get go. In fact three Z4s led the first couple of laps, quite the deal! Also, after hour 7, four Bimmers were in the top 10.
Conditions? Take a guess. Iffy at the start, it has only gotten worst. Currently the rain has stopped, a drying line is appearing but some fog remains in spots. Mercifully, the camera flashes in your eyes have diminished quite a bit.
The 188 325i leads V4 while the 86 M3 is second in SP10 (FIA GT4). 155 crews are considered still running, so basically no one has given up yet. Mayhem and destruction? You bet.
Like I said, lots of broken hearts, including your truly’s. The 311 AVIA M2 lost a wheel to wheel contact with another Bimmer and is currently in the pits being repaired. I did lose some of the little hair I still have on this second stint, which ended in the pit box with terminal steering failure. We were running 7th in class. I know the team, we will persevere…..
Cheers, Andres
