Another update from our friend, Andres Serrano:
Qualifying is done and dusted, and lo and behold Bimmerdom, the Z4s have it.
Four in the top ten, pole (the 26 Marc VDS) included. While pole does not win you squat on a 24 hour race, it is telling…… another curious thing……not a single solitary Ferrari or McLaren showed up. I wonder if it is the new speed limits or the fact that James Glickenhaus’ SGC’s came to play…… Sadly one of the two entered got too close to a guardrail last night and had to scratch from the race.
The top ten does feature four Audis as well, the balance being a Bentley in 8th and a Mercedes on the front row. The ROWE SLSs got themselves 11th and 16th.
I was a little high on the probable starters number, culling proceeded apace last night and also this morning, both cold, wet, dreary sessions that dried up in the end. Not without exacting a price though. It looks like 143 cars will take the green tomorrow at 16:00 Central European Time.
Weather? Iffy at best is the word. Do pray for us Argentina.
In the not Toys for Big Boys classes, the M3 challenge to Aston Martin in FIA GT4 is fizzling and no other takers showed up. Three Astons ( My pal and teammate Scott Preacher from Atlanta, Georgia, will pedal two them).
SUBARU has come to take names in SP3T, so the Audi TTs seem to be in trouble. Another piece of bad news for BMW is the sole Mercedes in V4 took the pole from a gaggle of 325is. Surely though, the M235i Cup cars will be a big part of the show. I will be sharing the 311, Sponsored by AVIA, with two guys and a lady, all Germans and we aim to do good. The car was good for fourth in a 15 car class last night. We dropped to 9th (and 89th overall) this morning because we chose to save our powder for the race. We shall see…… Will try to update through the race. Don’t be holding your breath too long. My money is still on the ROWE SLSs but the Bentleys sure look mean………here’s to a safe race……..
Cheers, Andres
